Notes
Georgina Midget B travelled to North York to play a young team on the rise in the Division. Georgina had only met the team once in Regular season play back on November 1st and had just played them a second time in the Huntsville Tournament.
North York got off to a quick start but had their goal disallowed when the net came off just prior to the rebound shot into the open cage. Lucky for the HWKS to start the game not so lucky for the STORM. According to the ref, this is a reoccurring situation due to faulty equipment. In fact, the net came off 3 times during the game upsetting the STORM and the root cause of a misconduct to one of their players.
On the power play with only 1.44 remaining in the first the HAWKS made what we are calling a pretty passing play (which may have been a few mistakes) that saw Mariah move the puck from the high slot to Brit down low. Brit then went cross crease (RR) to Natalie B who one timed it into the open cage. 1-0 Georgina.
At the 7:29 mark of the 2nd Christine chased down a puck and with a head of steam and a seeing eye shot from the side of the net roofed one short side that caught just inside the far post for the Hawks to go up 2-0. A minute later Georgina were on their 3rd power play off the game. Unfortunately, the best scoring chance went to North York (short handed) on a clear breakaway. Lauren came up huge with a right pad save to keep the game close. With only 18 seconds remaining in the first Megan, Natalie B and Brit were all on the door step when the latter knocked home a goal crease scramble opportunity and Georgina led 3-0 after two.
In the third period our girls increased the offensive pressure. After a few scoring chances the puck came back to the point and at the 9:09 mark Jenna wristed one that saw Brit tip it home. 3 minutes later Natalie B went cross ice out of the zone. Brit broke in wide cut hard to the middle and went far post for the trick.
Georgina potted their 6th into an open basket just as the time keeper hit the buzzer to curfew the game. The marker was disallowed.
HAWKS out shot STORM 30-15 on route their 5-0 victory. The scary part was that 10 scoring chances were generated by North York on those 15 shots. That’s too many! North York net minder also came up big as Georgina had 20 scoring chances and capitalized on only 5.
In the end it was Lauren with the shutout, Brit with the trick, solid back checking and the team whom went their first game of the season with no penalties that proved to be the successful recipe. Hawks extend league (standings) lead by three points with only 2 games remaining.
Keep it up girls!!
