HAWKS squeak one on penalty shot

Saturday evening the Georgina Midget B HAWKS hosted the Scarborough Sharks for game #1 of LLFHL playoffs.   Georgina controlled most of the play in the first but were not attacking and the SHARKS shut down them down.  

Period number 2 was a different story when the HAWKS took 8 minutes of penalties in a 10 minute period which saw them pinned into their end of the ice and allowed Scarborough to equal the scoring chances.   If not for a few timely saves by Lauren and a couple of missed opportunities by Scarborough  this heading could of read differently.   At the end of two the score was 0-0.

At 8:42 of the 3rd period it was the SHARKS that bit first.   43 seconds later, Megan broke out of the Georgina end and fed Natalie B in the neutral zone.   Natalie, Brit and Megan broke over the opponent blue line 3 on 1.   Natalie put it through the defenders legs picked it up in the slot and fired it low, far post, glove side for the equalizer.

Two and half minutes later, at 6:32 of the third, Mariah was hauled down when she and Erin were on a two on nothing breakaway.    Georgina was awarded the penalty shot.  Mariah broke in down the left side of center and shot under the goalies glove (over the pad) and into the same glove side corner as the first goal. 

With over a minute left Scarborough pulled the goalie.  Georgina had two shots at the empty cage inside the blue line but fired them both wide.   Scarborough and Lauren made a great leg save on a wraparound opportunity.  

Georgina squeaked past Scarborough with a 2-1 in game #1 to capture the first two points.
