The girls utilized the spacious ice pad and their speed to dominate the first 2 periods gaining a 2-0 lead into the intermission. Unfortunately the teams short bench due to vacations and injuries, fatigue started to hinder their efforts.
The girls battled to the end earning a 2-2 tie. The second game ended in a 3-1 win for Waterloo a game the team wanted to forget and move on. Still fatigue and a short bench forged unforgiving mistakes. Saturday was a day of go or go home. The girls responded with a very strong effort against North Halton winning the game 4-0 via a line up restructure that gained positive feedback from the team. Earning a spot in the quarter finals against Leaside. The girls started envisioning a date in the "SHOW" and came out strong but Leaside having the same thoughts fought back only to subside and the Hawks were victorious with a score of 3-2. Semi finals was the next step to the "SHOW" facing a team of similar speed and strength from Oakville the game was fast & furious. Going into the intermission the game was 1-0 for the Hawks.
The third was just as exciting. Power play and penalty kill being the feature. Oakville tied the game 1-1 on the power play 3/4 through the third period. the Hawks responded with a solid fore-check and cycle program. With 2:24 left on the clock the Hawks were on a power play. A beautiful end to end rush by the teams defensive core ended in an awesome goal. With the lead the Hawks were relentless with the fore-check taking away time and space from the Oakville team. Knowing a date in the "SHOW" was at hand, Oakville wasn't able to control the puck. Well done Hawks. Victory 2-1 On our way to the "SHOW" Sundays final was against Troy a team from Michigan. Troy was undefeated to this point in the tournament. Once again the teams were even in caliber.
The pace was once again Fast & Furious. The Hawks were once again eliminating time and space against Troy. Thereby frustrating the opposing team. By the end of the second the Hawks were up by a score of 2-1. The third period revisited the special teams game plan for both sides. Unfortunately Troy tied the game. the Hawks had many scoring chances, only to be thwarted by the Troy goalie. Oh my overtime! Through 2 periods of each 3 minutes 3 on 3, still tied Uggh! The shootout! Entertaining, Yes! Troy was victorious winning 3-2 via the shootout. Unfortunate for the Hawks, but none the less a strong tourney for the Hawks! Were very proud of you!
