The Georgina Girls Hockey Association wants ALL children, regardless of family or financial situation to have the opportunity to play hockey.

Should your financial situation become a barrier to having your daughter play hockey, there are a number of foundations in Ontario to help families pay for minor hockey.

Jumpstart Charities gives kids a sporting chance.

Participating in sport helps kids develop physical and social skills. It helps build self-esteem. By helping kids get into the game, we’re equipping them with determination. And we’re giving them confidence that will extend beyond practices and games.

No kid should be left on the sidelines but in Canada 1 in 3 families cannot afford to enroll their kids in organized sports. That’s almost 750,000 kids every year who want to play, but just can’t.

Jumpstart aims to change that. Across Canada, Jumpstart has 330 Chapters, which are made up of volunteers from across the Canadian Tire enterprise and local community groups, such as local Parks and Recreation Departments, Boys and Girls Clubs and the YMCA/YWCA, among others.
  • Applicants must be 4 to 18 years old.
  • Funding up to $300 per child is available.
  • A maximum of one program per child is allowed per season.
  • Funding is available for different members of the same family during the same season.
  • Funding approval is dependent on the financial situation of each child.

Each year, minor hockey associations in Ontario support numerous charities and charitable foundations. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are generated and many causes and programs benefit from this support.
In 2000 the Minor Hockey Foundation Ontario (MHF) was created to support minor hockey players in the Province of Ontario. The Foundation assists players seeking post-secondary education, players who require financial assistance in order to play minor hockey, and the Let’s Learn Hockey Program.

  • All requests can only be made for players aged five to seventeen years old
  • No application will be considered unless all necessary documentation is received in full. The President of the local minor hockey association or governing body will be notified if there are any missing documents.
  • Any applicant will play one of four levels of hockey: House, Local, Select/Minor Development League and Representative.
  • Each grant will not exceed $300. Financial assistance will vary depending on each case
  • Financial subsidy cheques will be issued to the applicant’s local minor hockey association or governing body.
