Hawks bring home some more bling with their 3rd Silver Medal of the season!
Starting off 2017 right! The Peewee B, Bantam B and Midget B teams ascended on Muskoka region to compete in the 40th Anniversary of the Huntsville Sting Girls Hockey Tournament.
Midget B were able to take in the Bantam B game on Friday night and were then supported by Peewee B in our final. Shout out to the Peewee B support and candy!
Midget B started the weekend with a 2-1 win over the OAKVILLE HORNETS . With the excitement of the the tournament the girls were flying on the large ice surface from start to finish. Key to the game was their focus and discipline.
In Game number two, Saturday morning in Baysville, the HAWKS had to take on Toronto Leaside. This Leaside team had only lost 2 regular season games and were sitting at the top of Georgina's LLFHL division. Leaside had beat Georgina 2-0 in their regular season matchup in December. The HAWKS again came out with speed and determination. HAWKS grabbed a late empty netter to beat Leaside 3-1.
Two wins in a row put Georgina Midget B into the lead during the round robin.
Georgina's next opponent was the Caledon Coyotes who were also 2nd in their LLFHL Division. Georgina has played Calendar 4 times in tournaments already this year. Both teams were at 2 games a piece. Caledon has already taken a gold medal from the Hawks in September and their last match saw Georgina eliminate them from competition in a 15 player shoot out.
In game #3 Caledon capitalized with 2 third period 5 on 3 power plays. Georgina hit a couple of posts but were shut down. Caledon won 2-0.
In the final championship game, Georgina again faced Caledon. Caledon was on the board early and the Hawks pressed hard, but hit several crossbars and alas Caledon beat them again to win Gold.
The girls played well with only 11 healthy skaters.
