The U13B team showed up to make a statement....and make a statement they certainly did!
Having four games in our opening round robin spread over Friday and Saturday, with games against London, Orangeville, Brantford & West Northumberland. The girls had a hard fought battle in our opening game versus a talented squad from London. After forming a comeback to erase a 0-1 score, they secured the win with a full team effort ... getting stronger as the game went on.
The girls started really finding their stride over the next few games with our offensive strength front and centre, plus outstanding goaltending....our U13B Golden Hawks finished the round robin 4-0, with goals for/against being a very solid 15 GF & 4 GA.
During our semi-final and a rematch against the Brandford Ice Cats, opening the scoring 12 seconds into the game was a springboard to the balance of the game. Dedicated to our defensive game and playing our best start to finish game yet in the tournament, we came away with a solid 5-0 victory. Our goalie turned away all pressure and an agreessive enslaught of shots during the 1st period to help calm down everyone.
Off to the finals for a rematch with a very talented London Devilettes team, no doubt hungry for redemption after their game one loss to us on Friday.
Off to a sluggish start and somewhat on our heels, oustanding goaltending solidified out own end and allowed the rest of the team to take a deep breath while shaking off the nerves.
Once a strange fire alarm situation was over, the team had regrouped and came back to the game with a vengence....determined to ride our solid goaltending as inspiration, the team rallied and swarmed the London net with speed, grit and determination, putting in the only goal of the championship game!
The coaching staff and families are so very proud of our teams effort, detemination and leadership in securing this championship title during our first early bird tournament of the season! To add to the enjoyment, our very own U15B Georgina Golden Hawks had just won gold the game before!
