Notes
- A win by Georgina against current 5th place Wilmot guaranteed a gold medal appearance.
- A win or tie by 1st place South Huron against 3rd place Mississauga would also guarantee Georgina a gold medal appearance regardless of Georgina's results against Wilmot.
Unfortunately 5th place Wilmot tied us 1-1 and 3rd place Mississauga beat 1st place South Huron 1-0
Georgina had two chances to secure the gold medal appearance by winning either of their final two games but left it in the hands of other teams.
In the 1-1 tie with Wilmot Georgina's goal was scored on a point shot by Maddie. Lauren was again excellent.
That caused a 3 way tie.
Georgina 5 points
South Huron 5 points
Mississauga 5 points.
Now the fact we beat Mississauga did not matter.
South Huron , Georgina and Mississauga all had 2 wins. South Huron plus minus was 3 ..(they moved on). Georgina was at a plus 1 and so was Mississauga...
In tie breaker rule#4 Georgina had let in 4 goals against in 4 games and Mississauga had let in only 2.
It was so close between finishing 1st and 5th..
for example:
If Georgina scored 1 more all weekend - they would of been going for gold
If Georgina let in 1 less goal all weekend long - they would of been going to gold
If Georgina would of beat or tied South Huron - they would of been going to gold South Huron out.
On the last face-off at Wilmots line Georgina had a chance to finish first overall and go for gold. Georgina on a 5 on 3 power play with Wilmot empty with 7 seconds. A possession by Georgina and a shot on net would of sent them 1st over all into the finals and would of sent South Huron packing.
If Georgina beat 5th place Wilmot they would of been going for gold and South Huron would of been out. Unfortunately it was Wilmots last game of the season and their coach said that was their best game of the weekend.
If Mississauga didn't score a timely seeing eye shot in game 3 against Keene with 4 seconds left in the game, when short handed, off the draw, Georgina would of been in going for gold and Mississauga would of been out.
Unfortunately, much like the Kitchener tournament (only one they didn't make the finals in) Georgina again left it in the hands of others and anything that could of happened did to ensure it wasn't in the cards for the Hawks.
Mississauga took control themselves and didn't give up when they scored last 4 sec to beat Keene in game 3 then went on to beat #1 team 1-0 to get into the tie standings and took it away from Hawks.
Georgina should be proud of their season and will compete for Bronze in a tournament that was winnable. Georgina will have to regroup and recharge for Provincials.
